TRUDY’S NOTE
Hi There
Who do you spend time with? That can really make a difference in your attitude and how much you and your business make. I’ve known for some time and was reminded again as I read the book Spiritual Selling for review this month.
When I started my first business, all of my friends had jobs (like I did) but that gradually changed. Most of the people I relate to NOW are self employed (like me). The transformation hurt me a little but I’m clear now about who and what matters to me most.
Learn more about the people you attract. Read on.
(See my blog at http://www.trudyvanbuskirk.typepad.com for more of my thoughts on this and other things that relate to marketing for small business.)
Thanks for reading.
My Best Wishes,
Trudy

1. FEATURED ARTICLE. Who do you spend time with?
><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><
Quote to Contemplate: “Be careful the environment you choose for it will shape you; be careful the friends you choose for you will become like them.” W. Clement Stone
Look around you. Who are your friends – in life and in business. Family doesn’t count here because you don’t “choose” them (at least not consciously. Who is around you most of your time? Who do you talk to or email most often? Who do you think of when you want to share something that happened to you?
Who do you do business with? Who do help in THEIR business?
Hmmmmmmm. Interesting (as Mark Victor Hansen always says.) Don’t judge. Just look for now. You may or may not want to add others and get rid of some of these …. or not.
WHAT QUALITIES MATTER TO YOU?
The first thing to do is take a long and close look at yourself and what values really matter to you. You’ve probably been told to choose your ‘ideal client’ first. If you read the book ‘Attracting Perfect Customers’ then you know  that all the characteristics of your ‘ideal client’ describe you, too.
Do the people in your life have these qualities?
PICK PEOPLE IN ALL FIELDS.
You want to learn new things and what better way. That keeps you young, too. What a bonus!
Different people have different backgrounds and do different things. Remember that.
SELECT MENTORS.
Have someone or several people who believe in you and what you’re doing. They want you to move forward. They want you to “win”.
They also tell others about you and your business. There’s a book by Seth Godin called Unleashing the Ideavirus. In it he talks about ‘powerful sneezers’. These are people who know lots of others, influence them and can’t be bought. Oprah is an example. You want to know at least one of them and have them tell others about you.
CHOOSE “SUCCESSFUL” PEOPLE WHO HAVE ACHIEVED YOUR GOALS.
The first thing you must do is decide what success is to you. It may mean having varied experiences, earning a certain amount of money (pick the number that fits for YOU), or accomplishing your goals.
Then get to know others who have the same values and are more successful than you. Hire them, make a comment in their blog, buy their book and review it where the review will be read, AND communicate with them – often – by phone, in person or by email.
STAY IN TOUCH.
When you have a question, or are crying or laughing, call or email them. Or do it for no obvious reason than you thought of them.
Look at those you have around you. Don’t judge yourself or them. You may change – or not. Something to be aware of.
Keep learning, … and until next time.

2. BORN TO READ BOOK CLUB
There is only one book for this issue since it’s both business AND spiritual. As always I have and have read it.
SPIRITUAL SELLING. How to Use the Attractor Sales System (trademarked) to Create Abundance in Your Business by Joe Nunziata.
Nunziata starts by explaining the story of how he came to ‘be spiritual’ and what chakras are, where they are (he even has a drawing of the body to help you) and how they work. There are meditations to do that will ‘clear’ you of what holds you (and thus your sales) back.
As you read the book you learn or are reminded of – how you are, why, what matters to you, how to restore this and how to secure what you want.
The first half of the book is about spirituality and the second half is about sales and how the two are related. Nunziata has owned more than one of his own businesses and been in sales for most of his working life so he knows what he’s talking about. This is a real how to book. Nunziata tells you what to do and how to do it in the WHOLE book.
I agree with him that you need to have both spirituality and sales knowledge to get people to buy from you. You have to believe in yourself to sell well.
Get this book and read and use it.. (I was reading it on the way to see my Mom in London, Ontario and my brother’s girlfriend wanted to see it and write the name down – that’s how good it is!) Go to -
